About Us

Having a servant heart wasn't my first thought. I fell into this! As an ex-IT professional, in 2013 I started Bayside Shoes for Life, a diabetic shoe store in Mobile, AL after my employer communications company downsized then closed. Days later I lost my marriage but although things seemed to be at their worst, I knew that the risk of failure was now of little consequence and now was the time to start Bayside Medical Supply, my first medical supply company which I later renamed Bayside Shoes for Life. I had only modest experience as a nationally board certified fitter of therapeutic shoes (a mouthful) but it didn't take long for me to discover a deep sense of connection to our local diabetic community which typically are lower income, high school educated, and have poor diet habits. I say this now with love as helping this underserved group to reduce their risks of amputation, a high risk among diabetics, exposed me to a friendship and genuine connection that gave me something I somehow was intuitively seeking, a connection to Christ through service to the underserved. Slowly business grew and for this single dad this work provided added stability and improved security for my then five and seven year old kids. Over time I learned about the biomechanics of the foot as well as some common sense, least costly remedies for foot pain and problems. And today, my son recently joined the Navy and is currently on his first assignment overseas. I am so proud of him. My daughter is driving now and plays volleyball on a high level for a three-time state champion high school. I am grateful for the opportunities her coaches are presenting as she grows in this sport and matures. I am so very proud of her as well. Now it is time to launch Bayside Good Stuff, an online store for you and your feet. And maybe more in time. In my late 50's I feel well equipped to be here with you and for you.

I was born in U.K. to two Australian parents. My father, an anesthesiologist, was internationally known for his research in undersea medicine and he and my stay at home mother, a nurse by trade, moved my brother and I seemingly every two years. London to Buffalo back to England then Seattle then a longer patch at Duke in NC where we were quickly indoctrinated as Tar Heel fans as we lived in Chapel Hill (dad wasn't a sports fan but all our neighbors were). As it seems to be increasingly the case, my parents divorced and I wound up with my dad here on the Gulf Coast, Mobile, AL where I swapped pond fishing for competitive star sailing. After a couple of degrees I left for CT as a budding database programmer among some other languages. I wasn't that good at it but it was work. I sailed in the Summer and skiied all winter. Then I went to the dark side of sales and marketing and became a director for a small and growing shop. Things seemed ok. Then 911 happened. I was living in Greenwich, CT at the time and could see the smoke from the buildings from across the waters of Long Island Sound. We were all in shock as some neighbors never made it home. My life lost its meaning. I was numb. But something happened inside. I swapped the desire for career and revenue for a deeper desire for connection and relationships. I quit my job, flew a friend up, and we drove all my belongings back to Mobile. We stopped at the first Waffle House and I knew I was on track for what ever was next. Well, I wasn't ready for anything but I married my old girlfriend and we had two beautiful kids but the marriage didn't last. And then a job loss. I will always be seeking and discovering and learning and this next phase in life will be no different. I sail a Finn now, survived coparenting with an ex-wife, do a little volunteer work here and there and in my late fifties I am beginning to date. Lord help me! I've never felt as much gratitude as I do today. Thank you.
